YEAR 12 STUDENT SELECTED TO PLAY FOR YORKSHIRE MEN’S 2ND XI CRICKET TEAM!

25 June 2025  |  Sven Wardle  |  Posted in: , , ,

Joe White, Year 12 student at Richmond Sixth Form College, recently made his debut in the Yorkshire Men’s 2nd XI team against an MCC Young Cricketers team in a two-day friendly game played at Park Avenue Cricket Ground, Bradford. We caught up with him to find out more about the game and how he came to be selected for such a prestigious team at only 17!

RSFC: How did you come to be selected for the Yorkshire men’s second team?

J: This is now my third season playing for Yorkshire, after being selected in 2023 after performing well for my North Yorkshire side. I then played for my age group side for the 2023 and 2024 seasons with the odd game for the team above. I was selected for the Yorkshire Men’s 2nd XI last week after playing for the Academy side and putting in some key performances during the start of this season.

RSFC: What are the other players like – I guess not many of them are in Sixth Form?!

J: Most of the rest of the team are adults and have been playing 2nd XI cricket for a fair few years now. I played alongside some big names such as Finlay Bean who has played for Yorkshire 1st team for a number of years, and a few real up and coming professionals.

RSFC: How was the game? How did Yorkshire do, and how did you do – any personal highlights?

J: The game was amazing – playing my 2nd team debut against a very strong MCC side made up entirely of current and ex-professional players. Although I wasn’t needed to bat in the run chase, I did bowl 13 overs and managed to pick up two wickets. Overall, we finished with a draw, and it was a great game to be a part of.

RSFC: What’s next for your cricket?

J: That’s not easy to answer, as it depends almost entirely on performances for me to make any more developments. I play for Richmondshire CC, so I am hoping to keep contributing to that team and ideally help us to get back-to-back league victories and then hopefully have similar success in other cup competitions.

RSFC: Thanks for the insight, Joe. Congratulations on the Yorkshire 2nd XI selection and good luck for the rest of the season – I’m sure this isn’t the last we’ll hear from you!
