U13 GIRLS FOOTBALL TEAM OFF TO A BRILLIANT START IN THE ESFA CUP!
Thanks to Emmey Raggett, U13 girls football team coach and Year 12 student at Richmond Sixth Form College, for the following report:
“After only one week of training, the U13 girls football team, consisting of a mix of students from Years 7 and 8, kicked off in the ESFA cup against Thirsk School.
The girls didn’t look like they were a new squad, initially gaining confident possession, looking very calm and settled on the ball. An early strike from Orla Noone set us 1-0 apart from the visitors.
As the game continued, the Richmond players’ confidence in each other and on the pitch continued. Some excellent play from the keeper’s kick to Phoebe Percival, whose perfectly placed cross fell to Orla once more, striking it home for the second time.
Just before the half time whistle, Maddie Leighton managed to snatch the ball from the opposition defenders with a great high press, nestling it into the bottom corner for a 3-0 first half.
The visitors came out after half time ready to go. After playing some very good football, they managed to regain possession of the ball for the majority of the half, pulling back three good goals. However, the Richmond girls weren’t ready to leave it as a draw. Some excellent link-up play from the forwards allowed Phoebe to take a shot from just outside the box, slotting it in the top corner. Full time 4-3 Richmond!”
