LEGEND OF RICHMOND SCHOOL CLEANING TEAM RETIRES

Stephen Parnaby was an exceptional member of the Richmond School and Sixth Form College cleaning team for many, many years. His willingness and ability to handle even the most unpleasant jobs with a cheery smile was the stuff of legend. He always had a kind word and, especially if you enjoyed walking and the outdoors, was happy to discuss the route, weather, pubs, sights, adventures and misadventures of his latest foray into the wilds of the Yorkshire Dales and often far beyond. We will miss him here at school, but know that he is very likely to be spending a lot more time where he loves the most – the great outdoors.
Mrs Potter, Headteacher had this to say: “After decades of loyal, outstanding service, we were very sorry to say ‘goodbye’ but delighted to say ‘happy retirement’ to cleaner, Stephen Parnaby, at the end of the summer term. The quality of Stephen’s service to the school and college was genuinely second to none, but as importantly, he was a true friend and much-loved colleague who was always happy to pass the time of day with anyone.
Stephen was well-known for his Christmas fancy dress outfits – always worn on the last day of term before the Christmas holidays – much appreciated by staff and students alike. As a nod to this, Stephen was gifted a ‘Superman’ outfit on his final day with us, which he wore with great pride.
We wish Stephen a long and happy retirement, enjoying time walking and travelling with friends and family.”
