APPRENTICE JOEL IS A VALUED MEMBER OF STAFF AT TEESDALE RENEWABLES
Joel Pybus is completing a four-year level 3 NVQ in Plumbing & Heating at Teesdale Renewables, based in Barnard Castle. Upon completion, he will be qualified to register with the appropriate professional bodies to work as a plumbing or heating engineer. Having this qualification as his foundation, Joel will have the opportunity throughout his career to develop further via short-term courses and offer specialist skill in renewables or commercial sector as a plumber or engineer.
Nicola Coulthard, HR Manager at Teesdale Renewables, recently went out on site with Joel and said: “Joel has settled in very well at Teesdale Renewables. He has shown a mature and engaged attitude to all he does. Despite Joel being less experienced than the other staff, he is not scared to share his thoughts and actively help with problem solving on site. He is showing to be able to apply his developing theoretical knowledge from college into the practical work he does day to day.
“Joel is a valued member of our team and is offering great support to all the engineers he works with. Teesdale Renewables is very pleased to have Joel on the team and can see him building a very successful career.
Joel said: “My day-to-day work is varied and always a learning opportunity. I can be just offering support by providing tools and parts to engineers or cleaning up on site. Alternatively, I can be helping with problem solving on a call out to find reasons for why the heating system isn’t working, or I can be independently fitting radiators or similar plumbing tasks. I have been given the opportunity to develop my skills of both traditional plumbing as well as the new technologies of renewables. I love how I have been thrown in at the deep end and getting on with the ‘work’ and not just being an observer. Being able to earn while I learn is also good – I watch how my friends spend their week learning at college but then have to spend their weekends working to earn. I get to do all that during the week and then enjoy my weekends! 10/10 happy I chose an apprenticeship.”
