ZAK TO REPRESENT NORTH YORKSHIRE IN THE NORTHERN COUNTIES 200M

Congratulations to Zak Penrose, in Year 8, who has qualified to represent North Yorkshire in the 200m race at the Northern Counties Championships.

Zak doesn’t have any running experience (other than when he is carrying a rugby ball!), but after winning the 200m race at sports day last year, he was asked to compete at the area championships in the junior boys 200m. The category is for Year 8 and Year 9 boys, so Zak was one of the youngest.  He won both his heat and the final with a time of 25.1 seconds which meant that he qualified for the County Championships which were held in York on Saturday.  Again, it was Year 8 and Year 9 and we believe that he was the only Year 8 in the race.  He came second out of 8 with a time of 24.5 and has qualified to represent North Yorkshire in the Northern Counties Championships this coming Saturday in Gateshead!

Jack Moore, PE Teacher, said: “This is amazing news for Zak who clearly has huge potential as a runner which we spotted at the last sports day. He is a fantastic sportsman and regularly excels on the rugby pitch and it’s brilliant that he is applying his fitness and determination to athletics.  We wish him all the very best at the Northern Counties championships.”
