YOUNG SCIENTIST GETS A TASTE OF UNI LIFE
Nathan Foulds, a Year 12 student, had a taste of university life after gaining a place on Northumbria University’s NUSTEM Experience Week with a focus on Physics. Nathan heard about the great opportunity through Mrs Harrison, his Physics teacher, and he submitted an application which highlighted why he enjoys Physics and his career aspirations. Nathan was one of only 40 students who achieved a place and he travelled to university each day by train.
The aim of the course was to explore university life and step into the shoes of a student who is studying Physics. Nathan enjoyed guest lectures, such as Boulby Underground Laboratory, Physics lectures and he produced scientific reports and critics.
Nathan who is aiming to study for an Aerospace Engineering Masters Degree and pursue a career in Aerospace or Rocket Science, said: “Learning about what lectures are like in a university really allowed an insight into university life. I would highly recommend this opportunity to other students as it’s great for your CV.”
Mrs Harrison, Lead Teacher for Physics, said: “This has been an amazing experience for Nathan and I was so pleased he applied to go to Northumbria for the NUSTEM experience week. He has had a chance to see what life would be like at University which many students do not get an opportunity to do. I am so pleased he was selected for this course and how confident he was to catch the train to Newcastle every day.
“This is a big step for Nathan towards his goal of studying Engineering at university and has inspired him even more. I am so proud of him for making the most of the opportunities that are out there!”
