Year 8 Footballers give their all

The Year 8 boys’ football team took on English Martyrs in the English Schools Football Association cup ESFA.  The game started at an extremely high tempo with English Martyrs controlling the ball, switching the play from side to side with ease, creating plenty of space in behind the Richmond defence and scoring goals in quick succession.  The Year 8 boys’ football team took on English Martyrs in the English Schools Football Association cup ESFA.  The game started at an extremely high tempo with English Martyrs controlling the ball, switching the play from side to side with ease, creating plenty of space in behind the Richmond defence and scoring goals in quick succession.  At half time, Richmond School found themselves 4-0 down.  However, after a strong team talk at half-time, the Year 8 boys held their heads high and played with the utmost determination and resilience, encapsulating the Schools values. Theo Webster controlled the game from the back, driving the ball out of the defence and into the opposition half. Jamie Bennett instructed the defensive line, keeping discipline throughout the team. Elijah Delaidriti made crucial tackles in defence, stopping any potential threat from the opposition. After several chances, there was finally a breakthrough for Richmond as Mason Amsing did enough to bundle the ball over the line from a cross by Alexander Goldie. However, it wasn’t enough, in the dying minutes of the game English Martyrs scored their 5th goal from a free kick just outside the box. The score finished 5-1 to English Martyrs.  Although Richmond School lost, the boys should be so proud of themselves for the character they all showed in that game, never once giving up.   A special mention goes to Man of the Match, Kieren Hawes pictured in the third shot below. Kieren played with unbelievable effort, determination, resilience and teamwork. He never stopped running, he never stopped trying and, most importantly, his head never dropped, he remained positive and gave absolutely everything.
