YEAR 8 FOOTBALL TEAM END THE YEAR ON A HIGH

It has been a busy first term for the Year 8 boys football team, with fixtures in the ESFA National Cup, County Cup and Area Cup all taking place. The season didn’t get off to the best of starts, as for the second year in a row we faced Conyers School in the ESFA National Cup first round and were on the wrong end of a heavy score line. Despite taking the lead early, Conyers quickly took control of the game, leaving us 6-1 down at half time. Ultimately, we couldn’t quite muster a comeback and ended up losing 9-2.

Despite the heavy loss, our next game saw us on our travels once more as we headed off to Scarborough to play George Pindar School in the County Cup. Led by this year’s captain Jude Bartley, the boys came out on top with a convincing 8-2 win. Our final match of the term came in the Area Cup against local rivals (and friends) SFX; a home fixture on The Dave Clark Arena. Once again, putting our early exit from the ESFA Cup behind us, we managed a convincing 11-1 victory.

Aside from the team’s determination to bounce back from their first defeat of the year, it has been brilliant to see the number of students that are turning up week in week out for after- school practice on a Monday. Students of all abilities and experience playing alongside each other and encouraging each other on the pitch is a joy to see. Year 8 boys’ practice will continue on a Monday night into the new year and we encourage as many boys as possible to come down and play.
