YEAR 8 FACE STRONG OPPOSITION IN COUNTY CUP SEMI FINALS
Richmond School’s Year 8 football team have been involved in some high scoring games in their run to the County Cup semi-finals, beating Rydale 10-0 and South Craven 5-0.
The semi-finals were always going to be a tough round – over to Mr. Westgate, team coach, for the match report:
“Manor School from York were a very strong team from the off. Richmond started slowly and were maybe not 100% prepared for the strength and speed of the Manor players.
Within the first five minutes, Manor were awarded a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. The free kick was deflected from a Richmond defender and went past the goalkeeper to make it 1-0. Two more goals from Manor in the first half made it 3-0 at half time.
The second half started positively for Richmond, with the players creating space and playing good football. Jake Murrell had a number of chances but some excellent goalkeeping and defending kept us out. Manor’s 4th score was a well worked goal with little the Richmond defenders could do to stop it.
At 4-0, Richmond showed no signs of giving up, switching on the pressure and playing their best football of the game. Jake Murrell managed to put a shot in from close range after some good passing and movement around to make it 4-1.
Two further goals from Manor sealed the game to finish 6-1.
A fantastic achievement by all the players in the Year 8 squad to make it to the County Cup semi-final. Lots to learn from the competition – we’ll be back next year!”
