YEAR 7 STUDENTS IMPRESS AT THIRSK TCHOUKBALL TOURNAMENT
Mr Robson, Teaching Assistant at Richmond School, recently accompanied ten Year 7 students to Thirsk School to take part in a Tchoukball competition, involving a number of local schools.
For those who are unfamiliar with the sport, Tchoukball is played with a team of seven players, who have to pass a ball between each other, scoring when they bounce the ball off a rebounder without it being intercepted by a player from the opposition. It has elements of volleyball, handball and squash. It’s called Tchoukball after the sound the ball makes as it bounces off the rebounder – “Tchouk!”
Mr Robson was very impressed by the way the team approached the competition – for some of the players their first time playing competitive sport away against other schools.
Mr Robson said: “All ten boys showed our six CREDIT values amazingly. You couldn’t wipe the smiles from their faces from start to finish! It was amazing to see how a change of environment really helped our students realise that competition with people from other schools doesn’t have to be scary. It was a fantastic afternoon out as the behaviour shown by all was exemplary – they were fantastic representatives for the school. They even saluted politely to the staff from the other schools out of respect which was great to see!
We scored 8 points and came back with gold medals – an incredible feeling! Four of the boys were also awarded with accreditation medals for their outstanding performances and attitude – Bobby Jackson-Murphy, Ethan Maughn, Josh Akers and Robert Paley”
