YEAR 12 CHEMISTS COMPLETE THE ROYAL SOCIETY OF CHEMISTRY SCHOOL’S ANALYST COMPETITION

14 June 2023  |  Jill Lundberg  |  Posted in:

Well done to our Year 12 chemistry students who completed the Royal Society of Chemistry School’s (RSC) Analyst competition.

During a day in the lab, they all successfully completed the practical challenges set out by the RSC in partnership with Northumbria University. A variety of analytical tasks included:

  • determining the unknown white powders from a baking competition
  • identifying the correct quantity of bicarbonate of soda in 3 cake samples using titrations
  • and finally, using Thin Layer chromatography to identify the correct ink used to write a ransom note

It was an exciting experience competing against other colleges across the North East.
