YEAR 10 STUDENTS VISIT LOCAL EMPLOYER – SWALE SCAFFOLDING LTD

A group of Year 10 students recently visited Swale Scaffolding Ltd as part of Richmond School’s work experience programme.

The students were able to visit the site, meet some of the employees and discover the range of career opportunities available including what it takes to become an apprentice with the company. They learned about what the employees do on a daily basis, about Health and Safety policies and equipment, and were given a tour of the yard.

Swale Scaffolding has taken many Richmond School students into apprenticeships over recent years so it was a great opportunity for students to start thinking about what they themselves might like to do once they leave school.

Miss Hamer, Careers Adviser, said: “We want to ensure all our students have as many opportunities as possible to engage with employers. This can take many different forms and whilst some students might head out to work experience placements for a few days, others might prefer to meet local employers as part of a group visit like this one, or to meet employers within school. All types of employer interaction are positive and a wonderful chance for students to get an insight into working life.

We are always grateful to Paul Ward, Managing Director, and the team at Swale Scaffolding for hosting our students and giving them the chance to find out more about the world of work. We look forward to welcoming them into school in September for our annual careers fair.”

Sarah Seymour, Health and Safety and Training Manager for Swale Scaffolding commented: “It was a pleasure to host a group of students from Richmond School. The students were very engaging and lots of questions were asked regarding the day to day running of our company and what services we provide within the Construction Industry. Hopefully, we have enthused the students for future scaffolding apprenticeships with ourselves.”
