WILLOW AND LILY’S MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING A GREAT SUCCESS – THANK YOU!
Last week we publicised a Macmillan coffee morning that was being hosted by Willow Connell, Year 9 student and her older sister, Lily, Year 11 student last year.
The background to the event was explained by Emma, Willow and Lily’s mum:
“Willow and Lily are hosting a Macmillan Coffee Morning on Saturday 1st February at Barton Village Hall from 10:00 – 12:00.
They sadly lost their grandad Dave at only age 62 to cancer in September last year after a 7-month battle with a rare and aggressive form of thyroid cancer. As his birthday is coming up soon, they wanted to host an event close to it, to try to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
They have been spending their pocket money buying raffle prizes for the event and plan to be busy in the kitchen making lots of delicious cakes and cookies for everyone to enjoy. All are very welcome!”
The coffee morning happened over the weekend and went very well indeed! Emma emailed on Sunday, providing us with some details:
“A little update and photos. The girls did amazing! Lily was kept very busy running the cake stall and Willow running the tombola and raffle with a little help from her Nanna Mel.
We couldn’t have done the event without everyone else’s support and all the kind donations of prizes and cakes so the biggest thank-you.
It was a little emotional to see such a fantastic turn out, to be supported by lots of our friends and family, as well as many from the village to raise lots of money for an important cause and in Grandad Dave’s memory.
The amount raised so far with the online donations still open = £793.36!
£356.81 – For Macmillan from coffee and cake sales and games.
£115 online donations for Macmillan Cancer Support so far – donations still very welcome at this link!

£321.55 – Raffles and tombola with money going to the charity Hospice at Home Carlisle and Lakes who were a huge support in the final days we had with Dave, sending out nurses to stay overnight with us each night.
Thank you again to everyone who was involved in the morning and who donated.”
