Under 13s have everything to play for at Yorkshire County Finals day

Our Under 13 Indoor Cricket Team have made it through to Yorkshire County Finals Day at Headingley. Following a successful day at the North Yorkshire Finals, the team finished runners up after a tight final against South Craven, who will also join Richmond in the showpiece event on 25th March.

Following wins against Sacred Heart and Queen Ethelburga’s in the group stages, Richmond faced Acklam Grange in the semi-finals, in what turned out to be a nail biter. Having only scored 43 runs, Richmond were well under par with the bat, however after a magnificent display with the ball and in the field we managed to bowl Acklam out for a mere 34 as we marched onto the final.

Facing South Craven in the final, we were once again asked to bat first, however this time we showed much greater intent with the bat and scored a competitive 76 from our 8 overs. The game was always going to be a close affair, and this went right down to the wire, with South Craven chasing the Richmond total down with a ball to spare, hitting a 6 off the back wall to clinch the win. It was disappointing not to win the final however the students were buoyed by the prospect of a trip to Headingley to face the other regional qualifiers in a battle to become Yorkshire champions in  two weeks’ time.

Mr Swanwick, PE Teacher, said: “During tournaments like this you often find that teams have a stand-out performer, however I can genuinely say that all eight players shone throughout, with one opposition manager making a point in telling us that we had by far the best fielding side in the competition. Isaac, Sophie, Archie, Will, Josh, Jack, Ollie and Elliot should all be very proud of their efforts and will travel to Headingley with everything to play for.”
