North Yorkshire Police have commissioned the creative arts Community Interest Company Soundproof Box to visit schools across the county to deliver their theatre performance ‘Red Flags’. This week the company visited Richmond School to perform to all students in Years 8, 9 and 10.
Mr Braham, Assistant Head Teacher at Richmond School, takes up the story:
“This week, the theatre company ‘Soundproof Box’ came into Richmond School to perform for our Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 students.
The performance is called ‘Red Flags’ and is used to raise student awareness and understanding of unhealthy and controlling relationships and how to stay safe when entering romantic relationships with others.
Students were able to recognise key words and use these to analyse the performances – when they were concerned about the nature of the comments or actions they waved their ‘red flags’.
Students and staff felt that the performances really shone the spotlight on low-level domestic issues and taught students the importance of reaching out and speaking to others if they had any concerns.”
Thanks to the actors Oscar Burton and Phoebe Smith for delivering such a powerful and informative performance. Thanks also to students in Years 8, 9 and 10 for engaging so positively with the performance and waving their flags in all the right places!
