The PE Department ‘run for heroes’

27 April 2020  |  Jill Lundberg  |  Posted in: ,

The PE department have been keeping their fitness levels up during lockdown. Last week they contributed to the ‘RUN FOR HEREOS’ initiative which is currently streaming on many social media sites. The idea is that you run 5km, then nominate five others to take part. All the runners donate £5 to Run for Heroes as well as tagging @runforhereos on their social media.

All proceeds are going to NHS charities whose mission statement is to support the welfare and the wellbeing of NHS staff as they fight COVID-19.

Miss Harrower was nominated by a friend and colleague from another school and completed her 5km run whilst maintaining social distance by 2 meters. Therefore, her five nominees were naturally: Mr Moore, Mr Westgate , Mrs Southgate, Mrs Carruthers and Mr Swanick

Miss Abbey was also nominated as an extra, for when she is out of injury, however she still completed the 5km by walking it and donating – hence her “claw hand”!

Every donation will contribute to:

  • Funding well-being packs for staff and volunteers on wards/departments
  • Cost of travel, parking, accommodation for NHS staff and volunteers Volunteer expenses
  • Other items as requested by NHS Charities that enhance the well-being of NHS staff and volunteers caring for COVID-19 patients.

Over £4.5 million has been raised so far. Please get involved and make sure you take a picture with your hand nominating five others and stay safe! More details on how to get started can be found here
