THE HEADTEACHER’S CREDIT VALUES AWARD WAS PRESENTED TO THOMAS PYRAH IN YEAR 13

Thomas was nominated by Mr Boyd who said: “I would like to nominate Thomas Pyrah for this week’s Head Teacher’s Credit Values Award.

Thomas is an excellent musician and has displayed all our values: Creativity, Respect, Excellence, Determination, Independence and Teamwork in an incredible few weeks. Since deciding to pursue higher education in music performance post sixth form, Thomas has wholeheartedly taken the advice of his teachers and has thrown himself into his music.

Thomas is in the Music department every morning (and I mean every morning!) at 8am to practice scales and technical exercises. His commitment to practice has paid dividends this term. Thomas has auditioned at both The Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Welsh College, gaining (virtually) unconditional offers from both. His auditions at the Royal College and Royal Academy in London are upcoming. Following audition, Thomas has also just gained a place in the prestigious National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.

Last weekend was a particular example of Thomas’s commitment to music making. Thomas started his weekend on Friday by playing for the school Concert Band at the town Christmas Lights Switch On in the early evening. He then hot-footed it over to Yarm for an evening rehearsal with the Tees Valley Youth Orchestra, finishing around 10pm. On Saturday evening, Thomas played in the TVYO Winter Concert in Middleborough. On Sunday Morning Thomas played in the school Jazz Band to open the Richmond Town Christmas Fair, before shooting up to Leyburn to rehearse and then perform with the Richmondshire Orchestra in their Winter Season Concert.

On Monday at 8am, Thomas was back in the practice room!

Thomas hasn’t always found music making easy, however his determination has never been in question and he is a great example of ‘if you really put your mind to it, you can succeed at anything!’

I really am in awe of his amazing courage and resilience.

Well done Thomas!
