Students to join Richmondshire Choral Society’s Richmond 950 celebration on 19th November

Richmondshire Choral Society’s contribution to the 950th Anniversary of Richmond Castle and town is a concert of music from the 20th and 21st centuries. We suggested adding a commission for the occasion from Mark Harrison, a choir member, who has written lots of gorgeous music, including the Christmas cantata Jubilate Natale that we sang at our 2017 concert. The 950 Committee were thrilled with this idea and persuaded the District Council to sponsor it with a commissioning fee.

A group of five Year 11 and 12 vocalists have been invited to join the choir for this wonderful commission.

Alice Noble, Music Teacher, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to take part in a community celebration marking 950 of Richmond. They are thrilled to be performing in a premiere and to be working with the Richmondshire Choral Society, it is an honour and privilege.

The students had a rehearsal with the Choral Society on Monday. A spokesman for the Choral Society said: “The semi-chorus from Richmond School singing in this evening’s rehearsal of Cantique 950 were brilliant. It was good to have the instrumentalists with us too. We think the people of Richmond will love this musical tribute to their town.”

The concert takes place in St Mary’s Church at 7.30pm on Friday 19th November and tickets, priced £10, are available via Richmondshire Choral Society, Castle Hill Book Shop or on the door.
