STUDENTS SMILE FROM EAR TO EAR DANCING AFRO-CARIBBEAN STYLE
Students had the pleasure of experiencing a workshop which was led my teachers from Northern School of Contemporary Dance (NSCD). This workshop was to promote their course on Cultural Dance and an opportunity to gain an insight to a career in the arts and what NSCD can offer. They deliver a wide variety of opportunities from youth classes, foundation courses and a degree. The students were pushed physically and they were able to experience the style of Afro-Caribbean. Students had to maintain their stamina through a two-hour workshop and move their bodies in new ways they have not experienced before.
Students learnt some repertoire from the course and also explored creative ideas to develop their understanding of the style.
Mrs O’Malley, Dance teacher, said: “It was lovely to see students experiencing the standard of a professional company and they were smiling from ear to ear while trying to catch their breath from hard work and determination. The workshop finished with a Q&A and the students gained great tips about auditioning for conservatories. It was a pleasure to welcome NSCD to Richmond School and Sixth Form College and the students excelled in a very challenging and beneficial workshop.”
