Congratulations to Bertie, in Year 7, and Isaac, in Year 9, who have been selected to represent Durham Cricket in the Under 13 and Under 14 teams.
Bertie and Isaac started playing cricket when they were seven and have played competitively for three years, with Bertie playing for Raby Castle and Isaac playing for Rockliffe Park. Cricket is their favourite sport, although they both also play football and are in the school squads.
Bertie said: “I love playing cricket and my position is wicket keeper. I have really got into it and I’ve never felt like that about any other sport. My family also enjoy cricket. My Dad used to play and my younger brother has also been selected to represent Durham and will be playing for the Under 9s. I am really looking forward to playing for the Richmond School Year 7 team this season.”
Isaac added: “Cricket has always been my favourite sport and I am an all-rounder so I enjoy batting, fielding and bowling. I was inspired to play by my brother and Dad who are also keen cricketers. I played in the Year 8 and Year 9 school cricket teams last year and I am over the moon to be selected for Durham Cricket.”
John Windows, Academy Director at Durham Cricket, said: “Bertie and Isaac have impressed to date and thoroughly deserve their places in the squad. Their selection is testament to the hard work and dedication they have put in so far. They have undoubted talent, and I am looking forward to seeing them develop and progress over the coming years. I am sure Bertie and Isaac will be great ambassadors for your school and represent the County with distinction.”
The teams have already started their training programme and Bertie and Isaac are looking forward to preparing for the fixture list for the 2023 season.
The students will have a comprehensive development programme. In addition to training, the students have a detailed strength and conditioning programme as well as receiving a generic nutrition and sports psychology programme.
Mark Swanwick, PE teacher, said: “It is fantastic to hear that Bertie and Isaac have been selected for Durham Cricket. This is a terrific achievement and a great opportunity for the students who will receive high-quality training to develop their skills.”
