STUDENTS INSPIRED BY RAMBERT DANCE COMPANY’S STUNNING PERFORMANCE

GCSE and CTEC Dance students enjoyed a fabulous visit to see the Rambert Dance Company perform ‘Peaky Blinders’ at the Alhambra Theatre in Bradford. The stunning contemporary ballet performance by Rambert, a world-famous dance company, was a brand-new dance work that delves into the back story of Tommy Shelby and the Peaky Blinders. A personal story unfolds in post-war industrial Birmingham as the Shelby family navigate the decisions that determine their fate.

Jamie Pemberton, Dance Teacher, said: “This was a fabulous experience for our students, not only to experience a live performance but it has also deepened their understanding and analysis of contemporary dance and ballet. The students were really enthused and inspired by the company and I am sure this will strengthen their own performances and practical exam work.

The production featured the full permanent Rambert dance company on stage, and a live band played specially commissioned music and iconic Peaky tracks. Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby is Rambert’s first collaboration of this kind and through dance theatre picks up the story of the Peaky Blinders at the end of World War One, following Tommy Shelby and Grace Burgess through their passionate love affair. While Tommy is building his empire, Grace is operating as an undercover agent for Special Branch on a mission to get close to the heart of Tommy’s gang. As the story unfolds, many hearts are broken.
