STUDENTS GAIN INSIGHT INTO A CAREER IN PHYSIOTHERAPY
We were delighted to welcome Louise Atkinson and Alex Percival, owners of Physio42 in Richmond, into school to talk to students about their careers within the NHS and then in private physio practice. This was the first of our Aim High Dream Big careers talks, created to inspire and encourage students to achieve success by hearing from professionals across a wide range of industries.
Louise and Alex volunteered their time to discuss their personal career journeys, give the students insights into the varied role of a physio, and talk about the challenges of running their own successful business.
Ruth Hamer, Careers Adviser says “We created the Aim High Dream Big programme in the hope of bringing careers to life for our students. By hearing from real people, doing real jobs, we hope we can inspire and support students to learn more about certain careers. In this session, Year 11 and Sixth Form students were able to learn more about the routes into physiotherapy, the qualifications and skills required and gain an insight into the role of a physio. We cannot thank Alex and Lou enough for giving up their time. All students were encouraged to contact the practice if they would like to gain work experience or shadow Lou or Alex during their working day, which is amazing”
Alex Percival, of Pysio42 relayed the following message after the event: “It was an absolute pleasure to attend Richmond School to talk all things physiotherapy yesterday. To be able to share our hard work and passion as both business owners and physiotherapists was an honour. The students were a delight to have with us and it was great to see some of them so engaged. We really hope we have inspired some of these students to become part of this amazing profession. ”
The next Aim High Dream Big talk will be in January with Mike White, Executive Headteacher of Synergy School Federation, talking all things Primary School Teaching.
