Students enjoy fantastic workshop with leading hip hop dance company

Mrs O’Malley, Mrs Fox and Miss Pemberton joined forces to supervise a fantastic Dance workshop for our enthusiastic, talented and hard-working students. Eighty students from Years 8-13 had the privilege of working with Boy Blue Entertainment Company. This company is on the GCSE Dance exam paper and is the first Hip Hop company to make it onto the exam program. Yolanda and Bruno are performers in a piece called ‘Emancipation of Expressionism’ by Boy Blue Company and led the workshop where students learned some of their repertoire.

Bruno and Yolanda are very experienced and gave the students an invaluable insight into the professional world of performing arts, as well as tips on how to be successful. The students participated in a very intense and demanding workshop that pushed them mentally and physically. Alongside this, students explored some interesting ways of creating choreography and performed to their peers at the end of the workshop.

Mrs. O’Malley said: “It was a huge pleasure to organise such an amazing opportunity for our students. They were smiling from start to finish and gained so many new ways of working to support their studies. The content of the workshop also allowed them to work with different students from various year groups and learn from each other which was the icing on the cake. It was overwhelming to see 80 students filling the hall to join in with a fun yet challenging and developmental opportunity.

“The dancers were inspired by Bruno and Yolanda who have worked with artists such as Rihanna, Tinie Tempah and Dave. The Dance department is privileged to be able to create this opportunity for our talented dancers and we wish them every success for future examinations and auditions when entering the Performing Arts sector.”

Some comments from students on the day were:

”That was amazing.”
“My legs hurt from how hard we worked.”
“I loved it today, it was lovely to try something new.”
“Thank you Boy Blue Entertainment for a very professional and outstanding workshop and we hope to work with you again in the near future.”
