Groups of GCSE PE and Year 12 students are benefiting from regular strength and conditioning coaching to improve their fitness, health and wellbeing. Jess Perrin, a local personal trainer, kindly volunteered to offer weekly training sessions to give our students guidance on how to improve fitness levels through targeted training in a safe environment. Jess advises the students on how to approach strength and conditioning and develop programmes that are achievable, as well as helping students to understand their limitations by not doing too much too soon.
The students have been working on a number of activities to improve their core strength, such as hollow holds, kettlebell swings, deadlifts, bench press and squats
Jess said: “I was really keen to come into school and share my knowledge of weight training with both staff and students. The response I’ve had has been fantastic.”
Helen Southgate, PE teacher, added: “We are so grateful to Jess for volunteering her time and expertise to provide our students with such a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills in weight training. Our fitness suite is a fabulous facility and it is great to see our students developing their knowledge, understanding and confidence in this method of training which they will hopefully then take forward and use to help them stay fit and healthy in the future.”
Jess’ business, JP Personal Training Studio, is based at Gallowfields Trading Estate where she offers a range of classes, for children and adults, as well as personal training to individuals and smaller groups.
