Students appeal for Leisure Centre to be saved

21 October 2022  |  Jill Lundberg  |  Posted in: ,

Students who attend Richmondshire Thirsk Dales Gymnastics Club were devastated to hear that Colburn Leisure Centre, home to their club, is at risk of closure due to soaring energy bills. A number of our students decided to take action and have written letters to councillors and Rishi Sunak, explaining how important the facility is to the club and the community and if they could help save it from closing.  Lili Soley’s letter has been published on Richmondshire Today – you can find out more here.

Alistair Frankland, whowas part of a team that won gold in May at the English Team gym Championships in Newcastle, is also featured in the Northern Echo’s feature here.

Some of our students are heading to the Leisure Centre later today as Tyne Tees Television are planning to film a  report – tune in at 6pm and unless there is some other breaking news we are hoping the feature will go ahead.

Richmondshire Gymnastics club has over 400 members ranging from preschool to adult, of all abilities who come from the local Richmondshire and Hambleton community.
