Sophie performs principal role for Scottish Opera Young Company

26 July 2021  |  Jill Lundberg  |  Posted in: ,

We are delighted to hear that Sophie Montgomery, alumna, has a principal role in the forthcoming Scottish Opera Young Company’s performance of Kurt Weill’s’ recently rediscovered satirical comedy’ The Tsar has his Photograph Taken. Sophie is currently in Glasgow for the final two weeks of rehearsals and will perform on 31st July/1st August in a new outdoor venue. It is Sophie’s first principal/solo role with the company and she will she will be singing the technically difficult part of Angele, alongside professional opera singers. It is virtually sold out and Sophie is very excited!

It is wonderful that the performances are going ahead – Covid permitting- and with lots of social distancing and testing. It has been a year of disappointments and cancellations of performances, amongst other things, Sophie was due to play Maria in Richmond Operatic Society’s production of the Sound of Music in 2020. However, Sophie has been passing on her knowledge to younger students and has been working with fellow alumna, Charlotte Porter, coaching young singers at Charlotte’s Dance School, based at The Station in Richmond.

Sophie is most appreciative of the support from the Richmond School Trust who kindly gave a grant to help cover travel and accommodation costs for the Scottish production. She has also had financial support from the Richmond Rotary Club for last years cancelled performance of the Frogs which will go ahead in 2023

We wish Sophie the very best with her role and we can’t wait to see photographs of what we are sure will be a stunning performance.
