SIXTH FORM ENRICHMENT FAIR

16 October 2024  |  Sven Wardle  |  Posted in: ,

Richmond School and Sixth Form College are always very keen to promote the wide range of extra-curricular activities that are on offer, giving students the opportunity to make use of the brilliant facilities we have and to enrich their experiences beyond the classroom.

Year 13 Student Leaders from Richmond Sixth Form College recently organised a Sixth Form Enrichment Fair, highlighting the above and giving both Year 12 and Year 13 students the chance to sign up to a variety of different clubs and activities, from Eco Club and Debate Club, to Latin and Gym club – plus many others!

Phillipa Kind, Deputy Head Girl, said: “The Enrichment Fair gave Year 12 students an opportunity to see what extra-curricular activities were available to them. This successful event was organised by the Year 13 Student Leaders, with Elsa Wright guiding us to highlight the importance of The Arts. This also gave Year 13 students a chance to start their own club and to get creative with the aesthetics of their stall. New clubs like the Book Club, Gym Club and Debate Club flourished during this event. Not only did this encourage many students to sign up to activities, but it also ensured that Year 12 and 13 students interacted with each other to help us become a unified Sixth Form College!”

Maggie Longstaff and Layla Hunt, Year 12 students who have recently volunteered to provide content for our social media, website and Newsletter output, had this to say:

“From a Year 12 point of view, we found the concept of the Enrichment Fair exciting given that the information about extra-curricular opportunities provided at the start of the year hadn’t been that detailed. It proved very useful in settling any questions we had about what was available and when, with the consensus throughout Year 12 following the Fair being universally positive.

This view is expressed through an interview we held with a student:

M+L: So how did you find it?

Student: It was great! I loved that there’s something for everyone – I mean, in school I wasn’t massively sporty so couldn’t be part of lots of clubs but here it’s different, there’s so much choice!

M+L: That’s great” Did you sign up for anything?

Student; Three clubs already. I think it’ll be nice to have a break from studying and also hang out with people I don’t have classes with, some from the year above too.

M+L: And did you find the Year 13s helpful?

Student: Yeah, totally. I didn’t know much about clubs before I came here and didn’t know they were all student led which was a nice surprise. They were able to answer any questions I had and made it seem really fun!

Thank you to the Year 13 Leaders for organising the event and to all students who will be running clubs and activities this year. Thanks also, of course, to everyone who signed up – we’re looking forward to hearing about extra-curricular stories and successes as the year unfolds!
