SCIENCE LIVE! STUDENTS INSPIRED BY LEADING SCIENTISTS.

Students studying Triple Science in Year 10 recently had an amazing opportunity to attend the GCSE Science Live lectures at St George’s Hall, Bradford.

Five leading scientists discussed their research with over 1000 students in the audience.

Students especially enjoyed the lecture from Professor Lord Robert Winston (presenter of Child of Our Time, medical doctor, distinguished scientist) where he discussed his pioneering work in the field of fertility. At the age of 84 he was still able to captivate the audience with his wealth of knowledge. In addition, there were lectures on swimming the English Channel and its links to material science by Dr Anna Ploszajski, the science of laughter by Professor Sophie Scott, nanotechnology by Dr. Tim Gabriel and colour changing chemistry by Professor Andrew Sella.

The variety of topics stimulated lots of discussion amongst the students and staff, who all had different opinions on which had been the best lecture. They were all engaging and informative and I hope will inspire many of our students to look at the wide variety of careers that are available in STEM. The students themselves were fabulous and were brilliant ambassadors for the school.

Thank you to all the students, parents, staff and school Trustees who contributed to the success of this educational visit – it would not have been possible without you.
