RICHMOND SIXTH FORM STUDENTS WALK INTO TOWN TO RAISE MONEY FOR LOCAL CHARITY

A group of over 30 Richmond Sixth Form College students took part in a ‘Walk to Support’ event recently, to raise money for local charity and shelter Family Help Darlington, an organisation supporting people who have been affected by domestic abuse.
The event was organised by two Year 12 students, Philippa Kind and Hannah Slater, in cooperation with the Richmond Soroptimists, and had been widely publicised around the college prior to the walk.
Students were encouraged to look fabulous by dressing up with pink accessories in order to draw attention to themselves on the walk and hopefully raise more money! Some students were wearing QR codes that could be scanned by members of the public who wished to donate – an excellent idea.
The weather on the day of the walk was typical for spring 2024 so far – cold and wet, but spirits weren’t dampened. After a group photo, the students set off toward Richmond town centre with the aim of raising as much money as they could and also getting back for their lessons!
Phillipa had this to say about the event: “The number of students who turned up for this cause was amazing! The pink outfits that everyone wore so enthusiastically really drew attention to us on the streets so that we had members of the public clapping and taking photos of us, as well as asking to donate!
We have currently raised £379 for the local domestic abuse charity and shelter, Family Help Darlington, which I think really emphasises how great a cause this is!
Hannah and myself are so proud of what we have achieved by organising this event.”
Thank you to everyone who has already donated to this worthwhile local cause – the collection is still open for donations – it would be great to see the total reach £500!
