RICHMOND SIXTH FORM COLLEGE TUTOR GROUP RAISES MONEY FOR THE YORKSHIRE AIR AMBULANCE

Every year, Richmond Sixth Form College tutor groups take part in the ‘Tenner Challenge’. Each group is given £10 and challenged to raise as much money for charity as they can.

Though all tutor groups did an excellent job, a real standout this year was Mrs Mawer and Miss Pierce’s Year 12 group. Bella Calunniato, member of the tutor group, takes up the story:

When we first started the Tenner Challenge, everyone on my table came up with various fundraising ideas that we thought were suitable and would be fun for everyone.

We narrowed it down to a raffle and put the idea forward to the whole tutor group. Everyone thought it was a good idea. Bethany Wilkinson and Niamh Hyman came up with the idea of doing a pub quiz alongside the raffle which we thought would be a good idea as we always do quizzes on a Friday morning.

So, we had our fundraising ideas, now we just needed to find a charity. We decided on the Yorkshire Air Ambulance as it’s a local well known charity so we knew people would donate.

Charlie Rutter and I worked together on the raffle, selling tickets, taking pictures of the hampers and I made posters to put around the Sixth Form College and set up the JustGiving page so people could donate online.

We sold tickets to as many people as we could – students, teachers, friends and family. The prizes consisted of hampers (see photos) containing lots of chocolate, bath bombs and bath gift sets, car accessories, two tickets to Lightwater Valley and loads more!

While Charlie and I were working on the raffle, Jake Parker, Thomas Pyrah, Kat Dunn, Niamh and Bethany created the quiz with an array of different rounds ranging from Pop Culture, Science, Music, Movies and of course the classic: General Knowledge. The quiz went really well and everyone enjoyed it – the hosts Andrew Lunn and Bethany were brilliant! And I mustn’t forget to thank Mrs Mawer for buying us the raffle tickets and the prizes for the quiz!”

The tutor group ended up raising the fantastic sum of £273.05. Michelle Raine, a representative from Yorkshire Air Ambulance visited the tutor group last week to thank students for their fundraising efforts and for a photo opportunity with a giant cheque!

Well done to Richmond Sixth Form College students for another brilliant fundraising effort!
