RICHMOND SIXTH FORM COLLEGE STUDENTS SAMPLE STUDENT LIFE AT OXFORD UNIVERSITY

Six Year 12 students, accompanied by Ms Johnson, travelled to Oxford to experience the University Open Day recently. They were hosted and financially supported by Brasenose College, our link college at the university.

The students were accommodated in college rooms and ate in halls. They were welcomed by undergraduate guides who looked after them while they were there. During the Open Day they were able to explore the city and visit colleges, finding out about academic and other opportunities, as well as getting a feel of what college life would be like. It was a long and tiring day but extremely worthwhile. This is what they had to say:

“The visit to Oxford was such an incredible experience, as I got to imagine the life I could have studying at such a prestigious university. The architecture was incredible and we were made to feel so welcome by the people at all colleges, but specifically Brasenose.”

“I had an amazing time visiting all of the colleges! The activities and social events helped me meet new people and make new friendships, and the quiz was a definite highlight!”

“Without the support of Joe Organ and Brasenose College, I don’t think this trip would have been possible. This trip has really opened my eyes to Oxford being a choice for me post A-levels and Brasenose will definitely be one of my top choices!”

“The helpers at Brasenose were so welcoming and I really enjoyed the activities they put on for us. Similarly, it was wonderful to stay in actual university accommodation and eat in the halls as I felt I got a real sense of what it would be like to stay there full-time. The whole trip was perfect; having never been to Oxford I felt in awe of the city and especially the architecture but could still navigate around all the colleges comfortably.”

Ms Johnson commented: “The students were great company and really threw themselves into everything. I’m sure that they will have gained a great deal from the experience.”
