RICHMOND SIXTH FORM COLLEGE – RESULTS DAY!

15 August 2024  |  Sven Wardle  |  Posted in: , ,

Year 13 students from Richmond Sixth Form College received their A Level and CTEC results this morning, confirming progression to the next stage of their lives. Two years of dedication and hard work in the sixth form have been rewarded by a fantastic set of results for this year’s cohort of nearly 80 students.

Richmond Sixth Form College staff are proud to have played a part in the preparation of these students for the wide variety of exams, practical work, coursework and spoken assessments that have taken place over the last months. It is the students though, of course, who have really put the hard work in! This cohort can now focus on their next steps: progression to university, an apprenticeship, employment, training or taking some time to gain life experience to move on at a later stage.

Every individual student’s results tell a different story, but below are some particular highlights from this year’s cohort.

Richmond Sixth Form College has an excellent history with students progressing to Oxford or Cambridge University and this year has been no exception. Alex Nimmo, who achieved four A* grades, will study Engineering at Cambridge University, while Sopia O’Callaghan, last year’s Head Girl, will study Classics, also at Cambridge. Sophia gained three A* grades, an A and an A* in the Extended Project. Harold Raven has earned a place at Oxford University to study Maths, with his outstanding two A*s, one A and an A* in the Extended Project.

Three of our students have been successful at gaining places in the highly competitive field of medicine, with Annabel Gorman, one of last year’s Deputy Head Girls, moving on to study Medicine at Newcastle University. Annabel achieved three A grades and a B. Jess Williams will be studying Adult Nursing at the University of York, earned by her fantastic two Distinction* CTEC grades and A Level C grade. Hannah Horton joins Jess in studying Adult Nursing, but at Lincoln University.

Other notable academic performances came from Lucy Denton who will be studying English Literature at Durham, Nathan Foulds who moves on to Aeronautical Engineering at Loughborough and Rowan Scott who will be starting his Geography course at Lancaster University. Chloe Mackenzie moves on to study Geography at Newcastle. All these students achieved a combination of A* and A grades, a fantastic reflection of the dedication and commitment they showed during their time at Richmond.

University is, of course, not the only progression route for students and we are proud to equip students with the qualifications and skills they need to progress on to a wide variety of destinations. It is also fantastic to see students moving on to employment and training in the local area, supporting local businesses and the community. This year Cole Mcgregor will start an Apprenticeship at Eyecatching Signs in Richmond, while Bella Stolarski takes up her Apprenticeship with TUI in Darlington. Holly Bright will start her training at the Swaledale Alliance with the goal of gaining her Teaching Assistant qualifications.

It is amazing to see students move on to such a wide variety of different courses and destinations, but this year we have seen a significant number of students progress into the field of the performing arts. Anth Edwards, one of last year’s Deputy Head Boys, has secured his place at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds to study Contemporary Dance. Callum Leinster will study Dance and Drama at Liverpool Hope University. Maisie Forbes and Indie-Mae Allen will start their Drama courses, Maisie at The University of the Performing Arts and Indie-Mae at York St John University. Toby Watson will study Film Production at Coventry University, while Luke Ingram will concentrate on the technical aspects of theatre, taking up his place to study Live Events Production at The Academy of Live Technology in South Kirkby. Isla Henderson, one of Richmond’s numerous stars of the stage over the years, progresses to study Musical Theatre at Musical Theatre Studios.

Finally, it is well worth mentioning the continued success of students who take up the Extended Project Qualification, an academic enrichment option very well regarded by universities, giving excellent preparation for the demands of post sixth form study. Students in this year’s cohort gained either A*, A or B grades. Once again, this is a fantastic reflection of the hard work and independence shown by these students over the past two years.

Mrs Potter, Headteacher, said this about today’s results: “Once again, it has been a day of genuine celebration for our students, their families and our staff. We wish every student all the very best with the next stages of their learning- whatever form that takes- and we urge them to stay in touch with us so that we can share their successes and inspire future generations.“
