Last Saturday evening saw the closing of the Swaledale Festival, a two week celebration of music, arts and walking in the Yorkshire Dales. Richmond School and Sixth Form College were honoured to perform the final concert!
Taking to the stage at 10pm, students from the A Level Music cohort performed a variety of Jazz and Popular Music hits to a very receptive audience at Tennants in Leyburn.
The evening was a huge success with the students performing extremely well in the spotlight of this internationally recognised festival of the arts.
The performance also linked Richmond School with a school in Bammental, Germany. The Bammental School performed at the Swaledale Festival last year and as a result of our new relationship with the festival, Richmond School Orchestra and Bands will be visiting the Bammental School to perform a joint concert with their musicians. This concert will form part of our concert tour to Germany this July.
Lead Teacher of music, Mr Boyd, said “The concert on Saturday evening was really special. For the students to be involved in such a prestigious festival is one thing, but to play the final concert was absolutely wonderful.I would like to thank the Swaledale Festival for all their encouragement and support, but above all, I wish to thank the students for their superb performances and professionalism at such a high profile event.”
