RICHMOND SIXTH FORM COLLEGE HISTORIANS PREVIEW GREEN HOWARDS MUSEUM D-DAY EXHIBITION
Richmond’s fantastic Green Howards Museum recently launched their special D-Day exhibition, marking the 80th anniversary of this momentous event. The exhibition highlights the Green Howards’ role on D-Day and tells the story of Company Sergeant Major Stan Hollis, recipient of the only Victoria Cross awarded on D-Day.
BBC Look North were there to record the opening of the exhibition, along with four Richmond Sixth Form College students who had been invited to the museum for a preview and to give their impressions of the exhibition for the BBC.
Year 12 students Andrew Lunn, Jack Hankin, Anna-Rosie Scott Hall and Jasmine Akin met Steve Erskine, Specialist Researcher and Zoe Utley, Head of Collections. They had a look around the exhibition and had the opportunity to listen to Steve give some fascinating background information.
Anna-Rosie said: “The event was really interesting and the opportunity to learn about the history of D-Day was unique and inspiring. We were there to learn about the new Green Howards D-Day exhibition and the personal stories of some of the heroes from that time in history for the BBC to film. The speaker, Steve, was really engaging and told us so many incredible stories.”
