RICHMOND SIXTH FORM COLLEGE DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT

09 January 2025  |  Sven Wardle  |  Posted in:

Maggie Longstaff and Layla Hunt, both Year 12 students at Richmond Sixth Form College, provide this report from the now-traditional Sixth Form Christmas dodgeball tournament:

Richmond Sixth Form College students have recently participated in an inter tutor group dodgeball tournament throughout the month of December, organised by Year 13 students who refereed, commentated and encouraged at every game.

The final was a battle between tutor groups 12 Southgate and 13 Dawson, teams who both had risen head and shoulders above their year groups throughout the duration of the competition.

Three games were played, culminating in a thrilling free for all between all students of both tutor groups. However, in the end, Southgate’s early winning streak meant the morning concluded in a 2-1 victory to them, with team captain Guy Feakins lifting the victor’s trophy on Southgate’s behalf.

Southgate has now won both the 2023 and 2024 tournaments, a legacy that has greatly pleased Mrs Southgate, who stated: “Congratulations to 12 Southgate for retaining our title! And well done also to the students of both year groups who took part – it’s always lovely to see so many of you getting stuck in and being competitive.”

Thanks to all participants, sideline supporters and especially the Year 13 students who organised and led the whole event.

Andrew Lunn, Year 13 student, Deputy Head Boy and one of the key organisers of the event, said: “The dodgeball tournament was an amazing way to wind down the year and start the Christmas holidays. All tutor groups from both Years 12 and 13 came together over two weeks to compete for the coveted Inter-Tutor Championship trophy. The final, watched by both tutor groups, was hotly contested and ended with both years taking to either side of the court for a huge game. It was a great way to end the year with teachers, students and even a rogue Rudolph involved!”

Thanks to Jake Gault, Year 12 and Daniel Smithson, Year 13 for the photos.
