RICHMOND SCHOOL STUDENTS TAKE PART IN CREATIVE GERMAN WORKSHOP

11 December 2024  |  Sven Wardle  |  Posted in: , ,

Miss Dutton, Lead Teacher of German and PASCH coordinator at Richmond School, recently organised a visit from two German-speaking creative professionals, who ran a workshop for a number of Year 10 and 11 German students.

Note: The PASCH initiative is an international network of over 2000 schools that place a high value on German. The initiative promotes and supports the teaching of German language and culture as well as fostering exchange between PASCH schools. Being a PASCH school opens up a wide range of opportunities for our German students at Richmond School and Sixth Form College.

Miss Dutton describes the day’s events:

“Year 10 and 11 students from Richmond School recently took part in a body percussion, movement and creative song writing workshop led by Sara Lasaki, dancer and music producer and Phil Greifenberg, musician, both from Hamburg.

Richmond was the first stop on a mini tour of schools in the UK and as a PASCH school we were very fortunate to be able to secure this dynamic workshop that blended movement, performance and German language learning for our students.

The workshop started with some warmup games and body percussion techniques which all the students enjoyed as this was something that was new to them. I was really impressed how our students embraced this element of the workshop and very quickly picked up the rhythm.

Students then worked in groups to produce song lyrics for a hip-hop song based on their own experiences whilst developing rhythmic skills. Although challenging, all groups produced some really great verses and even managed to write German lines that rhymed.

The workshop leaders were so impressed with the quality of the work and it was nice to see the students become more confident in their abilities as the day went on. The session culminated in a whole group jam session where the students showcased their new abilities in an exciting, creative performance.”
