RICHMOND SCHOOL STUDENTS REPRESENT YORKSHIRE GIRLS’ RUGBY AGAINST GLOUCESTERSHIRE

20 March 2024  |  Sven Wardle  |  Posted in: , ,

We recently received this news from Gary Howell, coach at Richmondshire RUFC. If anyone from any other local rugby club has further information about this game, or feels that we have missed anyone out, please get in contact!

This year, four Richmond School students are part of the Yorkshire Girls’ Rugby U16 Developing Players Programme. Emmee Michael, Isabelle Howell and Autumn Francis, all Year 10 and Jenna Rushforth, Year 11. All four girls also play for Richmondshire RUFC.

Recently, three of the girls travelled to Cheltenham Tigers RFC to take on Gloucestershire Girls’ U16 DPP team. Emmee, Isabelle and Autumn all made the trip – unfortunately Jenna couldn’t make it because of injury.

Gary Howell, aka Coach Porky, had this to say about their performance: “The girls made a strong account of themselves and went toe to toe with an experienced and strong Gloucestershire team. The girls were split across three teams and had four games, coming away with two victories each, a loss and a draw. Emee Micheal provided a real highlight, scoring her first try for Yorkshire.”

Girls’ rugby is going from strength to strength at the moment and opportunities for getting involved are increasing. If any girls are interested in taking up rugby please speak to your PE teacher – we have a girls’ squad at school – or any one of the girls who play for Richmondshire RUFC – there are Richmond School students playing at the U12, U14 and U16 levels. Alternatively contact Richmondshire RUFC at this link.
