RICHMOND SCHOOL – GCSE RESULTS DAY!

22 August 2024  |  Sven Wardle  |  Posted in: ,

Today saw what is arguably the most significant date in the school’s educational calendar – GCSE results day. Over 200 Richmond School Year 11 students came into school to pick up their results, confirming the next steps in their lives, be that progression into Sixth Form study, employment or further training. There were celebrations, congratulations and a few tears of joy and relief. Richmond School is proud to have played a part in the progression of this amazing group of students.

The results from this year’s cohort have been strong and consistent, particularly in the core subjects of Maths, English and the Sciences. These are the subjects that really enable students to progress, both at this stage of their lives and later on into further education and employment. Once again, the Art results provide a highlight, with a number of students achieving grade 9 – the top grade. Richmond School also continues to shine in the provision of French and German, with the school’s linguists performing particularly strongly. This continues to reflect the school’s status as a PASCH School, benefitting from exclusive academic and extra-curricular support from the Goethe Institut in Germany.

Every student will have a story to tell about their results and their plans for progression, but below we have picked out a  number of highlights.

As mentioned previously, the top GCSE grade is a 9. It is fantastic to see students achieving quite a collection! Maggie Longstaff and Maddie James each achieved seven grade 9s and two grade 8s. Edwin Carr, as well as being one of the school’s amazingly talented and hard working musicians, earned six grades 9s, two 8s and a 7. Henry Wright gained five 9s, one eight and three grade 7s. Emma Farrow achieved four 9s, an eight and four 7s. Jasmine Garcia earned three 9s, four 7s and a Distinction, with Guy Feakins gaining a 9, five 8s and three 7s. Congratulations to these students – their exceptional results are a reflection of the hard work and commitment they have shown throughout their time at Richmond School.

As well as outstanding academic performance, many of our students contribute to the school in a wide range of other ways, for example as musicians, sportspeople, or members and leaders of clubs and extra-curricular activities. Other students have faced and overcome significant challenges throughout their GCSE years, yet have achieved superb results. This list could be much longer, but a few highlights follow. Matty Partridge, physicist extraordinaire and tireless supporter of the school Science Club, achieved a grade 9 and a collection of 7s and 8s. Naser Al-Barghooth, who joined us from Syria in Year 9 with very little English, gained a 9, two 8s – one in maths, and a number of 7s and 6s. Keira Colley will be following her dreams onto the stage at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts with her great set of results, with another one of the school’s exceptional actors, Ellie Hughes, achieving equally impressively. Ellie also finds the time and energy to be a young carer. Sam Pickles, one of our many talented sportspeople and musicians, earned a clutch of 7s and 8s – a fantastic achievement. Emily Roberts, Caitlin Swindell, Isabel Bainbridge, Daisy Law, Ashton Newell, Anthony Hambridge and Max Barnes also achieved standout performances, impressive for a wide range of reasons.

Many of the students mentioned above will be progressing onto Sixth Form next year, most at Richmond Sixth Form College. Some students will be following alternative progression pathways, however. George Kipling will be starting an apprenticeship with a local construction firm, while Isabella Barker will be taking up her apprenticeship at the Rooftops Nursery, Richmond. AJ Macdonald’s apprenticeship is with Mac Plant, also in Richmond. We are very proud to continue our support of local businesses, providing skilled workers of the future! T Levels have also been a route taken by two students this year, with Ollie Rogerson starting an Engineering T Level at Darlington College and Alice Hutchinson embarking on an Agriculture T Level at Askham Bryan, York.

Jenna Potter, Headteacher, had this to say about this year’s GCSE results: “It has been a day of real celebration here today- our hall has been jam packed with students, parents/ carers and staff, all excitedly discussing the results achieved.  This year group has faced enormous challenges over the years, with two lock down periods- one in Year 7 and one in Year 8, and we are in admiration of the determination they have shown to get to this point today.  We wish them all the very best with the next steps of their lives, whichever path they have chosen and, of course, we look forward to seeing many of them back very soon to continue their studies with us at Richmond Sixth Form College.”
