Mrs Fox, Lead Teacher of Dance at Richmond School and Sixth Form College, provides this report about a recent dance workshop that took place at the school:
“Each year, we invite a provider to come in and deliver a workshop with some of our keen dance students to gain an insight into the ‘Centre for Advanced Training’ (CAT) Dance programme that is offered at various dance centres around the UK.
Northern School of Contemporary Dance (Leeds) and Dance City (Newcastle) are both part of a national network of 11 organisations delivering a breadth of dance education across the UK.
A practitioner from NSCD came in and delivered a two hour contemporary dance workshop which was intense and challenging for all students but also really creative, fun and enjoyable. All 25 students showed professionalism and commitment to the class, with many asking lots of questions to learn more about training and career paths within the dance industry.
12 students were ‘spotted’ during this workshop and invited to audition for the CAT programme at NSCD later this month. Some of these students, with support from their parents, are seriously considering this opportunity.
Well done to all students involved!”
