Mr. Swanwick, PE teacher, as well as coach and manager of the U13 open cricket team, provides the following report from what sounds like a nail-biting day of indoor cricket!
“Earlier this week, eight students represented Richmond School in the North Yorkshire U13 Indoor Open Cricket Championship. A total of five teams took part in the finals, playing a round robin, with the team winning the most points claiming the trophy.
Richmond started off with a tight match against Acklam Grange, posting 77. Batting first, we felt this was slightly below par; however, a magnificent display of bowling and fielding restricted our opponents to just 71.
Next up was George Pindar, and this time our batting didn’t let us down, posting a big total of 124. Another tight bowling spell and excellent fielding saw us home.
Going into our third match against Macmillan Academy we continued our excellent run making, this time posting 114, restricting our opponents to 68 in their reply.
This meant our final match against Fulford was effectively a final, with both teams going into the game with three wins from three. We once again batted first, but we had a bit of a wobble early on, with the Fulford opener claiming two wickets in his first over. Freddie H and Pippa rescued the innings, both retiring on 15; however, we felt our score of 67 was below par and it would take a good fielding display to defend it. Sam and Freddie C bowled the first 4 overs and kept the score tight, then a great catch from William removed their confident opener. With the game coming to a close it was left to Ethan to bowl the final over. He held his nerve to see Richmond win by 2 runs. A really good team effort with all eight players contributing with both bat and ball, deservedly earning the title of North Yorkshire U13 Open Cricket Champions!”
