RICHMOND ROYALS CHEERLEADING AND POM DANCE TEAMS – CHOREOGRAPHY AND SKILLS DAY

Girls from Richmond School and Sixth Form College’s very own Richmond Royals Cheerleading and Pom Dance Team had a day of intense training recently, starting their preparation for the season ahead.

Miss Pemberton, Teacher of Dance and International Pom Athlete for Hartlepool Hawks, takes up the story:

“What an amazing day for our Level 1 Cheerleading and Pom Dance Team as they worked solidly for six hours on skills and choreography for this season. This is the start of our preparation for the UKCA Nationals in June 2025 where the teams will be competing in the Key Stage 4 Level 1 Cheer and Key Stage 3 Pom Dance competitions against teams from all across the UK!

I couldn’t have asked for a more hard-working, resilient and professional group of dancers and cheerleaders – the day was fantastic from start to finish.

We were super lucky to secure Sophie Wintersgill from Hartlepool Hawks to come in and do our choreography for the pom dance team, which looks amazing already. Sophie has experience of coaching from tinys to international open teams and I am so glad I could share her expertise with our students. Sophie taught them so much in a short space of time – now it’s my job to perfect the routine and expand their skillset!”

Coach Sophie said: “I was hugely impressed by the work ethic and determination of the students on our choreography day. The day was tough and long but they were such a lovely bunch to work with and I’m so proud of how much effort they put in. An absolute credit to the school! It was such an enjoyable experience and I’m so excited to see their growth over the next few months leading up to their competition as they work with Miss Pemberton to perfect their routine.”

Miss Pemberton continues: “A huge thank you also to our three talented and hard working Sixth Form Lazer Cheer international athletes and coaches: Molly Shanley, Jessie Hankin and Ell Hughes. They worked tirelessly to plan the routine and coach over 20 students, some who have no prior Cheer experience – a fantastic achievement. They are great role models for our students in school and I am hoping they will continue this path to inspire with their knowledge, skillset and achievements.

We cannot wait for our competition in June 2025 and are very excited to see what the girls can bring to the floor!”
