RICHMOND EVOLUTION DANCE STUDENTS EXCEL AT THE EVERYBODY DANCE FESTIVAL, YORK

13 March 2025  |  Sven Wardle  |  Posted in: , ,

We recently published a ‘one week to go!” article giving some information about the ‘Everybody Dance’ Festival at the York Theatre Royal. 24 dancers from Richmond School’s extra-curricular dance group ‘Evolution Dance’ had been rehearsing hard for their big event, which happened at the end of last week.

Mrs Fox, Lead Teacher of Dance, takes up the story:

“The students experienced a full day of rehearsals and workshops, followed by an evening performance, so it was a long, exciting and tiring day.

A highlight of the day was the workshop led by Josh Hawkins, founder and choreographer of Manchester based contemporary dance company Hawk Dance Theatre.

The students also got the opportunity to watch a performance by Collide – an all-male performance group of BA students from Northern School of Contemporary Dance.

The festival’s aim was for young people to immerse themselves in all things dance and celebrate and share their creativity. Our students performed alongside youth dance and school groups from across Yorkshire and performed to a live audience of over 500 people at York Theatre Royal.

The students conducted themselves exceptionally well throughout the whole event and showed enthusiasm, professionalism and respect. They were a total joy and a real credit to the school.

Thank you to all of the parents who came out to support us for the performance in York, it was a special evening and one that I’m sure we will all remember for a long time.”
