RECENT SUCCESSES FROM DOMINANT RICHMOND SCHOOL U16 RUGBY SQUAD
Mr Moore, joint Lead Teacher of PE and manager and coach of the Richmond School U16 rugby squad, shares this report from two recent fixtures:
“We have had some good success recently with our U16 rugby squad – a mixture of Year 10 and Year 11 students.
Firstly, I took them down to Queen Ethelburga’s to play a full 15-a-side game. It’s always a challenge for us to bring a team together made up of lots of students who don’t normally play together, but there were some really big individual performances and some excellent cohesive team rugby. After we took a good lead, Queen Ethelburga’s came back into the game to make it a very nervy finish. Harry Lewis then crashed over the line to win the game for us 27-17. Player of the Match was Isaac Ulunasobu.
More recently the U16 team took part in an Area 10’s tournament featuring teams from six local schools. The squad played some brilliant stuff all five of their games – they had clearly learned some lessons from the game in the previous week. We had some big powerful ball carriers in the team but then also used our backs effectively to score a good number of brilliantly worked tries. We won all our games and the tournament overall. Josh Drought was absolutely brilliant from start to finish and was deservedly our Player of the Tournament.”
We look forward to hearing more about this strong U16 squad as their season unfolds – also watch this space for reports from more rugby fixtures – Year 7 to 9 are in action soon!
