Rambert, the UK’s leading contemporary dance company delivers fabulous classes

Rambert, the UK’s leading contemporary dance company, is currently offering online technique classes specifically designed for GCSE Dance. The classes are being delivered to support GCSE dance students in continuing to develop their skills for the performance element of their Dance course from the safety of their homes. The classes are led by professional dancers from the company and also feature  Q and A sessions, so this is a rare opportunity for our students to learn from and be inspired by some of the best dancers in the world.

Whilst our students may not be able to access the dance studio at this time, we are still very keen as a department to keep them moving and learning in a practical way as much as possible. We have set the challenge to all of our Years 9 and 10 GCSE Dance students (55 students in total) to take part in a minimum of one class per fortnight in a bid to keep their passion and enthusiasm for Dance alive and support their physical and mental wellbeing during the school closure.

Danni Fox, Lead Teacher for Dance, said: “Our GCSE dancers are hugely enthusiastic and are really missing their time in the studio with their peers and teachers. The online classes are a great way to get them moving and learning in a practical way, whilst also supporting their fitness and wellbeing during such an uncertain time.

“I am thrilled with the students’ positive responses to the online classes and receiving photographs of them continuing to dance from their homes and gardens has really brought a smile to my face. Some of them even decided to get together and take part in the classes via facetime, so it is also a great opportunity for them to socialise and re-connect, which is something we are all missing during this time.

The students are really enjoying the classes, as their feedback below demonstrates:

“Doing the class over facetime with Daisy was really fun.”

“I found it challenging but really enjoyed it and loved doing a practical task for a change from the computer!”

“I found it a good way to recap exercises missed due to the lockdown and a way to stay healthy”

“It wasn’t what I was expecting but it was good to see what they do in the dance industry”
