Richmondshire School Sports Partnership hosted a multi sport event last week. The event was co-created by ten pupils from Michael Syddall primary school and the Richmond School Games Coordinator, Mrs Carruthers.
The aim of this project was to create a brand new sports event which would interest pupils who do not already take part in regular sports clubs. The planning committee met to discuss initial ideas in April. The Michael Syddall pupils were excited about breaking the traditional image of a sports event and discussed activities like an inflatable obstacle course, escape rooms and NERF games.
Mrs Carruthers then put some research into these options and in the second planning meeting a decision was made to go for the NERF games. To ensure that we could accommodate as many schools as possible the committee decided to add an obstacle relay station and a football themed games station.
Many thanks to the following schools for supporting the event:
Bedale, Carnagill, Colburn, Hackforth and Hornby, Le Cateau, Michael Syddall, Leeming RAF, Thornton Watlass and Wavell.
The event was supported by Lizzie from Active Futures who ran the NERF games and young leaders from Richmond School who ran both the football themed games and the obstacle relay races. It was a highly competitive but fun event and definitely one to be booked in again for next year.
