OUTSTANDING VICTORY FOR OUR U14S GIRLS CRICKET TEAM IN WINFIELD-HILL CUP FINAL

Our U14 girls’ cricket team had an enjoyable and rewarding September day in the sunshine at Richmondshire CC when they played in the U14 Winfield-Hill Cricket Cup Final against Ripon Grammar School.

After winning the toss, Ripon elected to bat first but initially found runs hard to come by against an accurate Richmond bowling attack backed up by some excellent fielding.

Ripon were eventually all out for 79 runs in 19 overs with 3 wickets apiece for Maddie James and Sophie White and 3 run outs.

In reply, Richmond batted steadily, accelerating nicely towards the end of their overs and reaching the target of 80 runs for the loss of just one wicket (Daisy Pyrah 31n.o. and Sophie White 28n.o.)

Tony Potter, Head of Community Sport, said: “This was an excellent team performance from the girls who were delighted with their win against a competitive Ripon team.  At the first training session of the season there were only five players and we now have a squad of almost 20, including many who are playing competitive cricket for the first time. This makes their win even more impressive. Many thanks to Richmondshire CC for hosting this final at short notice at the end of a long club season.

The championship takes its name from international cricketer Lauren Winfield- Hill, who currently plays for Yorkshire, Northern Diamonds and England.
