On the ball

Jorge Lumley is a talent to look out for on the netball court after securing a place in the North East Region Under 13 squad when she was just 11 years old.
Jorge, now 12, has been playing netball since she was 6 years old, starting at her local Darlington Headlanders team, before moving to the Oaksway team, in Hartlepool, a year ago. Jorge plays either goal attack or goal shooter, so she has a pivotal position in all her games.
As a member of the North East Region squad, Jorge plays every fortnight and competes in games across the region. As part of the Oakway’s team, Jorge plays in competitions and tournaments in Co Durham, Teesside, Tyne and Wear and Manchester.
In a typical week, Jorge trains Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings at Oakway and then attends the Regional North East Academy on a Thursday with matches across Saturday and Sunday. She also finds time to represent the school at netball, as well as being a key member of the school’s Evolution dance club.
Jorge said: “I am really excited to have been selected for the North East Region squad. Having the opportunity to play at this level is really bringing on my game. I am always looking to learn, improve and develop as a player and I am fortunate to have the chance to do this. It is my dream to play for Manchester Thunder, which is the netball equivalent of the Man United football club – scouts often attend the regional matches, so I would love to be noticed and be able to play for them one day, but I know I am very young- at least I know where to aim.”
