NATIONAL GERMAN WEEK – LANDMARK COMPETITION

02 April 2025  |  Sven Wardle  |  Posted in: ,

This year marked the first time National German Week has been celebrated in the UK: 17th – 21st March.

As one of only 12 PASCH schools in the country, part of a global network of schools whose aim is to awaken interest and enthusiasm for German and Germany today, Richmond School was determined to give National German Week the attention it deserves, promoting awareness of languages, Europe and cultural diversity in the process.

There were a number of activities and events going on at Richmond School to promote the week, including German themed food in the restaurant, a poster exhibition of German cities in the library, a music workshop for Year 7 students and a ‘Landmark Competition’ open to all students in Years 7 – 11.

The Landmark Competition attracted a brilliant and diverse series of entries. Miss Dutton, Lead Teacher of German and PASCH coordinator at Richmond School, provides more information about the competition: “As part of National German week this year, a number of students entered the whole school German Landmark competition where students were tasked with recreating a German Landmark of their choice. The entries largely fell into 3 categories: models, pictures and baked goods.

As a department we were thrilled with the variety of landmarks depicted including The Brandenburger Tor, Burg Eltz and the Berlin Wall.

 The winners were:

Beth Aitchison – painting of the Brandenburg Gate.

Sophie Ward – model of the Bauhaus building in Dessau.

Chloe Devlin and Maddie Watkins – German flag cake.

Well done to everyone for taking part. We hope you enjoyed doing some research and creating something for National German Week!”
