Mr. Boyd, Lead Teacher of music at Richmond School and Sixth Form College, tells us about Martin Taylor’s visit:

“On Monday morning we had a visit from Martin Taylor, renowned world leading guitarist.

Martin was performing as part of the Swaledale Festival on Sunday evening and we were lucky enough that he dropped by on Monday morning to deliver a short concert and workshop, specifically discussing Jazz guitar and harmony.

Over 50 guitar and music students attended. They found the session really inspiring and enjoyed listening to Martin’s performance and discussions.

Martin was accompanied on stage by our own guitar teacher David Harris as they played Swing 42, a piece by Django Rhienhardt. Martin then invited Year 10 GCSE Music student Kai Oakley-Nicholson to the stage as they improvised around a 12 bar blues, followed by Year 12 musician Will Hume on the Cajon, playing a piece called Down at Cocomo’s.

The session flew past and it was a pleasure to welcome such a legend of the guitar to Richmond School!”

Mr Boyd videoed the performances, which can be seen at the links below:
