Let’s make sport everybody’s game

03 December 2021  |  Jill Lundberg  |  Posted in: ,

Wednesday 8th December is Rainbow Laces Day in support of inclusivity in sport and LGBTQIA+ inclusion. We are inviting students and staff to make a donation of between £1.50 and £2.50 for a pair of rainbow laces to wear on Wednesday.

Rainbow Laces will be on sale at student services on Tuesday 7th and Wednesday 8th December. We are asking for donations of £1.50 – £2.50 (rrp £3). All donations will go to Stonewall to support their ongoing work to make sport inclusive for everyone.

You can wear your Rainbow Laces on the day in a variety of ways: In your school shoes (Wednesday only), in your PE trainers or football boots, attached to your school bag, in your hair (as a ribbon) or on your wrist (as a bracelet).

The iconic Rainbow Laces have become a symbol of inclusion across sport and fitness with the aim of making sport everyone’s game. Sport and physical activity can bring so many benefits to our lives – not just in terms of our wellbeing, but also in the ways they bring people together. People from all walks of life can gain a sense of belonging and community through shared passion. Rainbow Laces have brought visibility for LGBTQIA+ people in sport and awareness. Today, more than a million people have laced up, and two thirds of sport fans who’ve seen the campaign believe they have a responsibility to stand in solidarity for LGBTQIA+ fans of the teams and sports they follow.
